The English language is one of the most widely used langages in the world. Kuyper College has developed its Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Program to help address the needs of a multi-cultural society. Through this program, students gain skills needed to teach and provide leadership in churches, schools, and other community settings here and overseas.

Upon completion of the TESOL program, students will be able to:

    • Provide leadership in the design of English as a Second Language (ESL) programs and courses both in the U.S. and abroad.
    • Teach English to students whose primary language is not English using a variety of methods.
    • Understand the variables affecting second language acquisition and apply this knowledge in the ESL classroom.
    •  Use their knowledge of English language grammar, sound system, and syntax to teach the English language.
    • Articulate the relationship between Christian English language teaching and the Reformed worldview.
    • Understand the relationship between language and culture and use this knowledge to enhance English language learning and teaching.
