Integrating Faith and Learning

Girl Reading BibleRegardless of their particular form of service, tomorrow’s successful Christian leaders will face a wide array of complex demands in a rapidly changing world.

To meet these demands, future leaders will need many skills and competencies beyond biblical literacy and sound doctrine. They will need a sophisticated and comprehensive worldview in order to respond to the problems, challenges, and needs of our broken world. Kuyper College is committed to equipping students with just such a worldview; a Reformed worldview, thoughtfully integrated into every aspect of our curriculum.

In the biblically saturated mind of a Kuyper College graduate, every academic discipline finds greater significance as it becomes a tool for evangelism and discipleship, for bringing about social justice in Jesus’ name, and for ministering to the spiritual, physical, and social needs of non-Christians and Christians alike.

Bible and Theology Major

As a Christian college, one of the hallmarks of Kuyper College is that every student, in addition to his or her academic specialty or professional track, earns a major in Bible and theology. The Bible and theology major has been carefully crafted so our students:

  • Will have a deep-seated love for the Triune God, his word and his gospel
  • Will be equipped to be biblically and theologically literate
  • Will be competent biblical interpreters
  • Will be encouraged to walk humbly before the Lord with exemplary piety
  • Will be motivated to relate to others with genuine compassion
  • Will develop a Reformed worldview to better understand, value, and minister to the world that God has made and the cultural settings in which they will live and labor

General Education Department

The General Education Department at Kuyper College offers a range of courses in the arts, sciences, humanities, and social sciences. The aim of these courses is to provide a well-rounded educational foundation so that graduates are able to effectively engage their world as informed, culturally literate citizens who can think critically, communicate clearly, and minister competently in a variety of contexts.

In keeping with the intellectual character of the Reformed tradition, Kuyper College also recognizes and affirms the value of learning for learning’s sake and so it seeks to provide challenging opportunities to stimulate and cultivate the life of the mind.

A vital component of the general-education core is the sequence of writing- and speech-communication courses. Effective communication skills are essential in every vocation; therefore, the Kuyper curriculum includes a sequence of courses that prepares students to communicate successfully across all the disciplines. In order to ensure the quality of the communications curriculum, the College has initiated a Writing Across the Curriculum program that emphasizes writing skills in a variety of courses.
