Application process—Traditional and Homeschool Students

Kuyper College gives full admission to applicants who have graduated from high school with a minimum GPA of 2.5 in college preparatory courses-such as English, history, social studies, science, and mathematics-and have a minimum ACT score of 18 (or an SAT I score of 920). The College reserves the right to change these minimums at any time.

Applicants who are out of school and who do not have high school diplomas must obtain the equivalent by passing the General Educational Development (GED) tests in the United States, by completing Level IV of the Academic Upgrade Program in Canada, or by using the corresponding method specified in other countries, if approved by the Admissions Office.

Applicants from other countries, who will be applying for an F-1 visa to study in the United States should correspond with the International Student Services Coordinator (not the admissions staff) and click here  to see the specific requirements for International applicants.

Application process

Applicants must submit the following:

  1. A completed formal application. You can apply online any time for FREE. Or a paper application form may be obtained from the Admissions Office or download here. Please note that for a paper application there is a non-refundable $25 application fee (which is waived if application is made before January 1). Both the online and paper application include: space for biographical information and an essay question.
  2. High school transcripts. Request that an official high school transcript be sent directly to Kuyper College. Applicants who have taken the GED test should send the official scores to the College.
  3. ACT or SAT I scores sent directly to Kuyper College. Information concerning SAT I or ACT test dates and locations is available from most high school principals or guidance counselors.

Application Process—Transfer students

Students transferring from other colleges or universities must follow the same application procedures as first-year students. Official college transcripts from institutions where academic work has been completed must be sent to the Admissions Office at Kuyper College. ACT and SAT I test results are also required for transfer applicants who have earned less than 30 credit hours of academic work and who are below the age of 24.

Kuyper College grants admission to transfer students who have a minimum cumulative college GPA of 2.0. Applicants who do not meet the admission criteria are reviewed individually by the Admissions Committee.

Transfer credit is awarded for work done at accredited institutions. The courses must be academic and similar in nature to courses offered at Kuyper College. Students must have achieved a "C" or higher grade in each course to receive credit. A maximum of 65 credit hours may transfer from other colleges or universities. For additional information regarding transferable credit, refer to page 57 of the Kuyper College catalog.

Undergraduate students are classified as freshmen until they have earned 30 semester hours. Students with a minimum of 30 semester hours are classified as sophomores; those with 62 semester hours are classified as juniors; and those with 90 semester hours are classified as seniors. Classification for the purpose of college records will be revised at the beginning of each academic year.

International Application Process

To be considered for admission to Kuyper College, the prospective student must provide the following:
1. A completed application form
2. Application fee ($25 U.S.)
3. Pastor's recommendation
4. Personal recommendation
5. International Student Essays
6. TOEFL exam score
7. High school and college transcripts
8. Statement of Finances form 

Application Deadlines

  1. Register to take the TOEFL test by December 1. (Some exceptions exist; e-mail MVanderMeer@kuyper.edu if you think you qualify for exemption).
  2. Complete your Application File by February 1.
    • Send application, photo, application fee, and essay answers to the College.
    • Request that the people providing recommendations for you send their letters.
    • Direct that your TOEFL test scores be sent to Kuyper College (our college code is 1672).
    • Have your transcripts from secondary school and any college-level studies sent to Kuyper.
    • Files not completed by February 1 will not be considered until the following year. 
  3. The International Student Admissions Committee meets on February 16.
  4. Once decisions have been made, applicants are notified by e-mail, and official letters of admission or denial are sent.

Admission Requirements

In order to be considered for admission, a student must have:

  • Demonstrated Christian character and leadership abilities.
  • A high school transcript showing that the student has earned a GPA of 2.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale (average letter grade of "C" or higher)
  • A 6.0 on the IELTS test or a TOEFL score of 550 on paper-based TOEFL or 79 on the iBT. 

Students who do not have a TOEFL score of  79 or above must take English language classes. English as a Second Language (ESL) classes are given in conjunction with another local college. Students who score lower than 50 on the TOEFL  iBT cannot be granted admission to Kuyper. The College's International Scholarships are not applicable for students who come still in need of language classes.

International Cost Information and Scholarships

Tuition, room and board, and fees are the same for international students as for students from the U.S. In order to be considered for a scholarship or grant, the student must indicate financial need during the application process by completing the Statement of Finances form. Financial Aid can take two forms:

  1. Grants-up to 50 percent of tuition, room, board and fees if the student meets the following requirements:
    • Proves financial need.
    • Has ecclesiastical support for his/her studies from his/her home church or denomination.
    • Shows a strong and clear personal commitment to return home to serve his/her home church.
  2. Scholarships - up to 45 percent of tuition, room, board and fees if the student meets the above requirements and has a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
    • A student may receive both the grant and the scholarship simultaneously. In such a case, 95 percent of the student's costs would be paid.
    • Scholarships and grants are renewable yearly, upon approval by the International Student Affairs Committee.
  3. To be Considered for Financial Aid, a Student Must:
    • Be able to state clear ministry goals.
    • Show a strong and clear personal commitment to return to his/her native country to serve in the home church or denomination.
    • Have the support for his studies from his/her home church or denomination. If applicable, the student should submit a letter from denomination representatives indicating that they support the study plans of the student and that they have a job for him/her upon the student's return to the home country.
    • Sign and return the scholarship acceptance form stating his/her intentions to return to the home country.

NOTE: Some programs are not covered by scholarships: Nursing, New Church Development, and Teacher Education.  Living expenses for family members (F-2 visa holders) are not covered by scholarships.
