Q. Why is the Library Called the Zondervan Library?
A. The library is named in honor of P.J. and Mary Zondervan. P.J. Zondervan,
the founder of Zondervan Publishing House in Grand Rapids, Michigan,
was an active member of the founding board of trustees for Reformed
Bible Institute. Since 1991, the Library has also housed one of the two
repository collections for Zondervan Publishing House, which means the
Library receives one copy of every book and Bible published by
Zondervan.
Q. What resources are found in the Library?
A.Books, computers, databases and software, helpful staff,
newspapers, a photocopier, places to study and relax, journals and popular magazines.
Q. I’m not a student or faculty member. Can I borrow materials using
a library card from another school or the Kent District Library System?
A. No, but you can use your MichiCard, obtain one if you are a Michigan
resident or non-Michigan residents may purchase a Zondervan Library
card for $5 that gives borrowing priviliges.
Q. Can I use my MichiCard library card to borrow materials?
A. Yes, the Zondervan Library participates in the MichiCard statewide
library access program. You will be asked to show your MichiCard
and complete a registration form. There are no fees for a Michicard.
Q. For what length of time may I check out items?
A. You may check out books for three weeks. Back issues of magazines,
pamphlets, and audio-visual materials may be taken out for one week.
If you need an item that is checked out to someone else, ask at the
circulation desk. There are overdue fines of 25 cents per day for materials.
Q. Is there someplace quiet in the Library where I can study or read?
A. The second floor of the Library is an informally designated quiet area.
Q. What Library resources are available on the Web?
A. The public will find the Zondervan Library Catalog (InfoCentre),
periodical holdings information, and general contact information. Additional
information and electronic access is available to students, faculty, and
staff via the Kuyper College portal.
Q. Where are the various resources located in the Library?
A. The entrance to the Library is on the second floor of the
classroom/administration building. Here you will find the
Check-Out/Information area, current periodicals and newspapers,
reference materials, and the collection through the Library of Congress
classification BV. You’ll also find computers, small-group study rooms,
a photocopier, library classroom/music lab, the Curriculum Center
and a public telephone as well. On the upper level, you will find
quiet study areas, back issues of periodicals and the collection
from the Library of Congress classification BX-Z.
Q. Will someone explain to me how to use Library resources?
A. A professional librarian is be available to assist you with research and finding
materials using the print and electronic resources. Assistance is also
