Kuyper College librarians are professionals with advanced degrees from accredited ALA institutions; they are also committed to academic excellence and student success. As a result, Kuyper librarians are engaged in an ongoing process of integration of quality resources and best forward-thinking practices often associated with larger educational institutions.
In a world of 24/7 information flow, students need to understand that success is achieved not just by accessing information, but by the effective use of that information. To that purpose, the Zondervan Library staff assists in teaching the “Gateway to Excellence” class, in which information literacy skills are sharpened. During this class students are introduced to the essential role the Library can play in their academic and personal development. Critical thinking, sourcing, and evaluation of information are stressed. Library staff also actively seek to understand course requirements, acquire appropriate materials for the collection, and respond quickly to changing needs.
