Curt Essenburg, current Acting Director of Student Life, has formally been named to the position of Director of Student Life at Kuyper College.
Essenburg’s time at the college has helped prepare him for working in Student Affairs. He was challenged to think critically by his professors, who also led him to cultivate a love for learning and the desire to immerse himself in the word of God. His involvement with Student Government also helped to ignite his passion for Student Affairs: he served first as the freshmen representative, followed by two years as Spiritual Life Intern, and finally as Leadership Intern.
A Kuyper alumnus, Essenburg graduated from Kuyper in 2006, with a Major in Bible/Theology and Educational Ministries. In 2008, he receive a Masters in Education, with an emphasis in College Student Affairs and Leadership from Grand Valley State University.
“Though I did not know how or when, I wanted to serve Kuyper in some way. God opened the door for me in 2011 when the position of Resident Director became available,” said Essenburg. “Since then I have been affirmed over and over again that this is where God has called me.”
Since that time, Essenburg has been an active part of Student Life. Along with his prior position as Resident Director, he has served as the master facilitator of MERGE—a critical component of the Kuyper curriculum for first year students, and as the Student Activities Club advisor.
Now, as Director of Student Life, Essenburg said he is looking forward to building personal relationships with students as he helps lead the continued expansion of a campus environment where students thrive spiritually, academically, emotionally and socially.
“I wake up every morning ready for another day to serve God at Kuyper,” said Essenburg. “I am looking forward to a future rich with opportunities to serve our students as they seek to establish their own identity in their spiritual and professional lives over the course of their time at Kuyper.”
