Kuyper Men’s Basketball Season Best Ever
March 12, 2012
The Kuyper College Men’s Basketball team enjoyed a break-out season which culminated with an invitation to the National Championship as a number 5 tournament seed.
What prompted this invitation was a momentous accumulation of wins against ranked teams that saw the Cougars become a nationally ranked team for the first time in their history.
At different times, during the regular season, Kuyper held the eight, fifth, fourth and number one ranking in the country. Led by senior and Second Team All-American Montay Lee—the first Kuyper player to score 1000 points in his career at Kuyper—the team came together towards season’s end as a force to be reckoned with. Coached by NCCAA Midwest Region Coach of the Year Stan Jesky, the Kuyper men showed skill, maturity and court smarts in every game they played.
At the National Championship tournament, the Cougars fell short of their ultimate goal—win a national championship for Kuyper. “This will have to wait until next year,” said Christine Moran, Kuyper College Athletic Director. “However, the fact that they did not bringing home a national championship does not diminish the great accomplishments of this team. We are proud of what they did and we, as College community, are going to celebrate our men’s team achievements with a rally this week. This group of players,” she added. “Will be an example to other Kuyper teams for years to come of hard work, strength of character, team work, fair play and Christian sportsmanship.”
