Kuyper Wins Battle of Nationally Ranked Teams

The NCCAA number 4 nationally ranked Kuyper Cougars men’s basketball team beat defending national champion and number 1 ranked team in the nation, Grace Bible College, 78-67. This ended Grace’s 69 game consecutive win streak against NCCAA teams. Grace had not lost a game since 2008. With this victory in their home court, the Cougars win the Cross-Town Cup Trophy and secure the number 1 seed for the playoffs in the NCCAA Midwest region.

The Cougars trailed by 6 points at the half—31-25, but exploded in the 2nd half , outscoring Grace 53-36 behind the shooting of guard Andy DeKam and forward Omar Haynes who each hit for 22 points, with Haynes adding 10 rebounds. Kuyper shot a blistering 58% (18/31) in the 2nd half to take the lead and win going away. The Kuyper defense held Grace Bible to just 36% shooting from the floor.
