Led by Judi Ravenhorst-Meerman, Professor of Social Work at the Collegee, 14 Kuyper College social work students are conducting a research program at Grand Rapids’ Guiding Light Mission through April of this year. The scope of their work centers on finding answers to three important questions:
- What are the identified needs of men who enter Guiding Light?
- What obstacles would get in the way of meeting the identified needs?
- What would be an indicator that a man entering Guiding Light would be ready to leave?
Their broad research will include surveying the residents of the program, employees, board members, surrounding community agencies, volunteers, and donors. Besides their research, each Kuyper student will be completing five hours of individual volunteer work at the Mission.
