Taste of the World

Every year international students have the opportunity to showcase their country’s cuisine and quite literally – a taste of their culture—during Kuyper’s annual Taste of The World dinner. This year’s event was held on January 29 and the menu consisted of a wide variety of dishes from many countries.

Karla Velis, a student from El Salvador, said that participating in the event brought memories of her family and home. Velis served Pupusas, a dish common to El Salvador made of maize flour dough filled with a blend of cheese, pork and beans. At first “Most people were a little cautious as they approached the Pupusas,” said Velis. “However once they tried it they enjoyed them.”

Dishes from fourteen countries were served by students and also by four faculty members.
