Kuyper’s Newest Team: Cross Country!
October 23, 2013
Men and Women Cross Country is the latest team sports added to the roster of Kuyper’s intercollegiate athletic programs. The team is coached by Hope College graduate Aaron Kenemer who assisted in the development and coaching of a cross-country program that produced high school all-state honors runners at Creative Technologies Academy in Cedar Springs.
Despite being a first-year program, Cross Country set out ambitious goals for the year. One of those objectives was to send runners to the NCCAA nationals. For men qualifying time for nationals is 34 minutes for 8K (approximately 5 miles), while women must beat 24.5 minutes for 5k (approximately 3.1 miles).
For the men Kevin Kruizenga and Joe Kilmer have had leadership roles in the team, with Kilmer posting fastest time among the Kuyper men. Representing the women Breanne Bishop has drawn from her running experience in high school to help her meet the teams and personal objective of qualifying for nationals with a time of 24.21—29 seconds under the minimum qualifying time.
