“Teach our children the way they should go and when they are older they will not turn from it” says Proverbs 22:6. Kuyper College, in partnership with Community Sports Group, Knapp Reformed Church, and Sunshine Community Church hosted more than 350 elementary-aged children June 10-15 in an outreach program called KidsGames.
KidsGames shares the love of Christ through the playing of sports & games. It’s goals are evangelism, community partnership, and youth leadership. Each 3-hour curriculum lesson is tied to a character trait, bible verse and taught experientially through various stations like games, sports, drama, and tracks/clinics. The character lessons for the week were purpose, significance, forgiveness, and sharing. It was a wonderful week of fun, laughter, high energy and skill development.
“It was really special to see so many kids invade our campus. In fact we nearly doubled our target of 200 kids” shared Brian Telzerow, Youth Ministry professor and host coordinator. “I’d like to believe we made an impact spiritually and showcased our campus to so many families in the community.”
Although the program is targeted for 5-12 year olds, many youth and young adults serve in leadership. In fact, there were nearly 100 volunteers serving including Kuyper students majoring in sports ministry.
KidsGames has reached over 18,000 children in West Michigan since 2006. Globally KidsGames has spread to over 160 countries reaching more than 8 million children each year. Learn more at www.KidsGamesWestMI.com.
