Professor Richelle White is an Assistant Professor of Youth Ministry at Kuyper College and is currently in the process of completing her Ph.D. in Christian Education. Professor White will begin her inaugural teaching semester at Kuyper in the fall of 2007. She will teach Contemporary Youth Culture and serve as the faculty supervisor for the Youth Ministry Internship Program.
Prior to coming to Kuyper, Professor White was an Adjunct Instructor of Religion at Virginia Commonwealth University where she taught the course Black Religion. As the pastor of Zion Baptist Church in King and Queen, Virginia, Professor White taught all ages across the curriculum and strengthened the relational ministry among her membership. Serving as a pastor has helped her to grow in her own faith as a leader of God’s people. Prior to serving as pastor, Professor White was a Youth Minister for ten years. In this capacity, she was the founding director of the “Sisters in the Spirit—Rites of Passage” mentoring program for African American women ages 8 – 18. The “Sisters in the Spirit” ministry was the 1997 Maryland State Mentoring Program of the Year. Because of her work with this ministry she was asked to write a book for Abingdon Press Publishing Company, and she is the author of Daughters of Imani: A Christian Rites of Passage for African American Young Women.
“Teaching and learning are my vocational lifelines. They afford me the opportunity to teach and be taught in a variety of venues beyond the classroom. I am ever grateful to God for the opportunity to prepare the next generation of youth ministers, pastors, servants and scholars for effective ministry in the kingdom.”
In addition to her love of teaching and learning, Professor White enjoys reading, movies, shopping and writing curriculum.
