Kuyper's Annual Siblings Weekend
College is normally a time for young adults to have some time away from their families, but this weekend Kuyper students invited their family to share in the college experience with them. The Student Activities Committee and the Admissions Office held the annual Kuyper College Siblings Weekend recently for students and their siblings, cousins and friends.
“Siblings weekend tonight!” wrote senior Hannah Schierbeek in a Facebook post; “The College will be bustling with the next generation of Kuyper students!” Schierbeek and her brother Adam, a freshman, hosted their younger cousins Isaac, Andrew, Rebecca and Ezra. Schierbeek is hopeful that her cousins will carry on the Kuyper tradition in their family. In addition to Hannah and Adam, their older sister Kari graduated from Kuyper and met her husband Tom at the College.
Students got to treat their siblings to dinner in the cafeteria, a men’s basketball game victory and a fun Bounce Party with huge inflatables. Bedtime was optional, followed by brunch Saturday morning.
Junior Tony VandenHoek is also no stranger to sharing his college experience with family. Tony’s brother Ryan is a freshmen, and his sister Erin graduated in December. His cousins Hans and Ingrid VanVeen also attend Kuyper College. Tony joked that “Every weekend is sibling’s weekend for our family!” Despite the everyday family ties at Kuyper, the family welcomed younger relatives Nicholas, Jonathan, Nate and Kristin to a weekend of fun.
