Kuyper Professor Speaks in Chapel

Dr. Doug Felch, Professor of Theological Studies at Kuyper College, recently spoke on behalf of the HANDS student group on the importance of the body in Christian life. The HANDS group is a student-run organization that “seeks to change the world through reaching out to others and trying to understand social justice issues with a holistic view.” Dr. Felch used a passage from 1Corinthians 6:12-20 to theologically show how Christians should care for their body for the purpose of glorifying God with it. “Paul summons us to glorify and bring praise to God through the instrumentality of our bodies,” said Felch. “Whether we eat, drink, or exercise, we should do it to the glory of God. Don’t worry about body image; instead, concern yourself with the image of Christ.”

The HANDS group hosts events that promote the honoring of believer’s bodies as God’s temple, and through the inviting of speaker to come on campus, such as a recent  event that featured speaker Kenneth Dudley M.D.,  a family physician and associate professor of medicine at Michigan State University. Dudley’s premise is that instead of “destroying the temple of God” (our bodies) we can build up our bodies and the whole body of Christ by taking care of ourselves.
