Health, Wellness & Physical Fitness

Medical Care

Students who have medical needs can consult their own physicians or visit the health-services facility at Calvin College, only a short ride from Kuyper's campus. Kuyper College, in partnership with Calvin College, provides Kuyper students with a variety of basic medical services that include diagnosis of illnesses; immunization and allergy injections; athletics physicals; diagnostic testing for mononucleosis, strep throat, pregnancy, and anemia; treatment of colds, sprains, sore throats, flu, and other minor ailments. In addition it provides follow-up care after visits to the medical center or hospital as well as crutches for temporary use. For more information, contact Calvin Health Services at (616) 526-6187.

All students are required to have the following health forms on file: the Health History Form, Immunization History Form and the TB Self Screening/Authorization to Treat Form. Please visit the Kuyper College Portal in order to access an electronic copy of the health forms under the Registration tab. Forms should be mailed or faxed to the Student Life Office at Kuyper College by no later than Friday, July 30, 2010 for students entering during the fall semester. Late enrollment students need to turn these forms in by Monday, August 30.

 

Physical Fitness

While the College promotes academic and spiritual growth at every juncture, it also recognizes that staying physically fit is essential to staying healthy.

Boonstra Fitness Center

Mens BB Five The Boonstra Fitness Center at Kuyper College includes a gymnasium, locker rooms, and a weight room featuring free weights and weightlifting and cardio machines. Sports equipment such as volleyballs, basketballs, soccer balls, and badminton racquets are available from the equipment room.
The fitness center is open to all students, faculty and staff, other constituents, and guests of students or the College.

Intramurals

Womens VB TwoKuyper College's Intramural Committee is very active in organizing athletic opportunities for the Kuyper College community. The committee is responsible for organizing tournaments, activities, and outings to promote active lifestyles and good sportsmanship. Tournaments are held in basketball, flag football, volleyball, ultimate Frisbee, indoor and outdoor soccer, pool, and table tennis. The Intramural Committee also plans activities such as lunchtime dodgeball, softball games, and nighttime games. Hiking, Biking, Kayaking, Skiing and Fly-Fishing

Michigan Ski One Very close to campus are Robinette's Orchard and Provin Park, where you'll find an assortment of trails for hiking, mountain-biking, and cross- country skiing. Only 15 minutes away is the Cannonsburg Ski Center for downhill skiing and snowboarding. The Manistee National Forest, the sugary-sand shoreline of Lake Michigan and many inland lakes are less than one hour away. And the world-renowned Rogue, Pere Marquette and Muskegon Rivers, teeming with trophy trout, steelhead and salmon, are also nearby.
