Presidential Transition Progresses to Application Review and Interviews

October 10, 2016

The search for Kuyper College’s next president is progressing well. The Presidential Transition Team has developed a search and transition process that honors the leadership and legacy of Dr. Nicholas V. Kroeze while also choosing the most qualified individual to lead the College in the years ahead.

According to the American Council of Education the average tenure for a U.S. college president is a little more than eight years. Throughout its 78-year history, Kuyper has only had four presidents: Rev. Dick Walters 1943 – 1966, Dr. Dick Van Halsema 1966 – 1987, Dr. Edwin Roels 1987 – 1995, and Dr. Nicholas Kroeze 1995 – present. The relative longevity of Kuyper presidents testify to the institution’s emphasis on community, calling and servant-leadership.

The Transition Team continues to work with the search firm, JobfitMatters (JFM), who assisted in surveying the greater college community to help develop an opportunity profile to attract exceptional candidates and guide the application review process. The opportunity profile is now complete and is available at jobfitmatters.com/kuyper.

In addition, Transition Team Chairman, Paul Holtrop, recently shared the survey results on the characteristics and skills the Kuyper community believes the next president should possess. Respondents said Kuyper College needs an individual who, guided by the Holy Spirit, will bring innovative thinking toward expansion of the college’s mission and influence. According to those surveyed, the most important personal characteristic the next college president should possess is to be: outgoing and personally engaging in order to influenceindividuals in the school and the greater community. For details on the survey results, go to www.kuyper.edu/surveysummary.

Applications from domestic and international candidates have started to come in, and the Transition Team will continue to accept applications until the right candidate is chosen. Interviews for the position will begin in mid-October.
