Specializations

Specializations can be added to most Kuyper programs. Personalize your program by adding one or more of these program elements. Each specialization is 12 credit hours.

Dive into the original language of the New Testament and earn advanced standing at several prominent seminaries. This specialization enables you to read the New Testament in Greek. The sequence introduces the foundational vocabulary, grammar, and literary features used by the New Testament writers so that you can better understand, interpret, and communicate the message of God’s Word. You will be able to address questions related to the nature of the Bible, the history of the original-language text, and various approaches used for translation.

This Specialization consists of four (4) courses:

Strengthen your skills as a communicator to excel in your field of study and vocational calling.

You will be able to better understand the social, psychological, economic, and spiritual interrelatedness of people in their environment. This specialization is a broad overview of the delivery of social service, social groups, the psychology of the individual, marriage & family, and non-profit business. These courses can empower you to be more skillful and effective in your ministry and career.

Listen to diverse voices and gain hands-on experiences—overseas or at home. You will learn from specialists in local and international programs which serve multicultural communities. This specialization also includes a senior-year internship which is tailored to your interests, and includes options such as working with refugee and immigrant populations, assisting the homeless community, working in local churches with outreach endeavors, engaging youth in skills-building programs, assisting community agriculture programs, and volunteering with various organizations in international settings.

Make your move on a path towards leadership or management. The leadership specialization exposes you to leadership theories, practices and principles tailored to equip you to lead holistically in whatever your vocational calling may be. This track includes experiences such as Leadership in the National Parks and the Catalyst Leadership Conference. This specialization also includes a leadership practicum where you will have the opportunity to practice you leadership knowledge and skills by working or volunteering in local churches, businesses, ministries or community organizations.

Walk alongside people in various stages of life and through many of life’s challenges as you learn to care for people in the church, an organization, school and community. The Pastoral Care Specialization provides you with the foundational principles and practices to listen actively, offer wise counsel, and promote personal and interpersonal health in a local church or ministry setting.  You will explore the realities of human development as it intersects with culture, faith, church, and society.

Grow in your understanding of healthy human development, personal and social interactions, and behavioral patterns as it relates to the Christian faith. You will gain the foundational knowledge of human thought and behavior as it relates to basic psychological ideas, terminology, theories, issues, trends, and applications today.
