Whitcomb Takes on New Role as KuyperWorks Specialist
When Tyler Whitcomb first joined Kuyper College as an assistant basketball coach, he brought with him a wealth of experience in sports management, teaching, and leadership. Over time, his role expanded beyond the court and into the classroom and admissions office.
Now, Whitcomb is stepping into a new position—KuyperWorks Specialist—while continuing to serve as an admissions counselor and adjunct professor.
He’s stepping away from coaching, but not from his calling to invest in students.
“This role is essential to strengthening our commitment to the Work College model,” Whitcomb said. “We want to create meaningful off-campus job opportunities that align with students’ career goals and set them up for success after graduation.”
As the college’s first KuyperWorks Specialist, Whitcomb will work both internally and externally to support students. On campus, he’ll help students grow their skills through their existing work roles. Off campus, he’ll build relationships with local businesses and nonprofits to create new work opportunities tied directly to students’ academic and career interests.
“My background is a unique mix of entrepreneurship, sports management, teaching, and leadership,” he said. “One of my big
gest strengths is networking and relationship-building, which fits perfectly with this position.”
He’s especially energized by the chance to tell Kuyper’s story beyond the walls of the College.
“This is an opportunity to share the KuyperWorks vision with the broader community and build partnerships that benefit our students in real, tangible ways,” he said.
Whitcomb’s work will also intersect naturally with his role in admissions. He’s already been active in growing Kuyper’s dual enrollment partnerships, particularly through a strong connection with Potter’s House. In addition to working with prospective students and families, he continues to teach courses in the College’s Sports Management program.
Last year, his courses included Sports Marketing, History of Sports, and Leadership, Coaching, and Officiating at Kuyper, along with Intro to Business and Sports Marketing at Potter’s House. This fall, he’ll teach a new Careers in Sports course at Kuyper and return to Potter’s House for Intro to Business.
Every part of his role is anchored by a desire to help students thrive: in class, in the workplace, and in life.
“I’m incredibly thankful for the opportunity to grow at Kuyper and be part of something bigger than myself,” he said. “Every role I’ve had here has allowed me to invest in students and help build programs that matter. I’m excited about the future and look forward to seeing how KuyperWorks continues to evolve and impact students’ lives.”

Students in Kuyper College’s Sports Management program will now have access to one of the sports industry’s most unique learning platforms, thanks to a new partnership between the college and Sports Business Ventures (SBV).
The collaboration is tied to Kuyper’s Careers in Sports course and will give students access to SBV’s extensive library of videos, webinars, and interviews with sports executives from around the world.
SBV was founded by Brian Davison, a former executive with Nike and the Milwaukee Bucks. The platform is designed to educate and inspire the next generation of sports professionals by offering real-world insights and behind-the-scenes access to the industry.
“This partnership gives our students the chance to learn directly from people who are shaping the future of sports,” said Tyler Whitcomb, adjunct professor and coordinator of the Sports Management program. “It’s a valuable way to connect classroom learning with real career paths.”
By integrating SBV’s content into the course, Kuyper aims to give students a clearer view of the diverse opportunities within the sports world—from marketing and media to team operations and entrepreneurship.
