Residence Life

Living at Kuyper

College is much more than a pursuit of learning and getting a diploma. It is also an opportunity for you to experience personal and relational growth while being challenged to develop new life skills. One of the best ways to experience this growth is living on campus.

Schaal and Timmer Halls

You will find comfortable suites at building accessible Schaal and Timmer Halls. Each suite has two desks, two sets of stackable bookshelves and beds, and a large closet with drawers. Every suite shares one bathroom. Each hall has a kitchen area, free laundry facilities, and a lounge equipped with a TV. A residence life staff member lives on campus among students seeking to foster community.

FAQ’s About Schaal and Timmer Halls

Do you have questions on residence life at Schaal and Timmer Halls? See answers below.

What are Kuyper’s housing requirements?

Full-time students are required to live on campus in order to facilitate learning and to maintain a strong sense of community. Exceptions may apply if they meet one of the following criteria:

  • The student has junior status or higher
  • The student is at least 21 years of age
  • The student lives with immediate family
  • The student is married
  • The student has requested and received an exemption from Curt Essenburg, dean of students and work

Note: While students who are under 25 years of age may live in the Schaal or Timmer Halls, students who are 25 or older must obtain prior approval from Curt Essenburg, dean of students and work, to live there. He can be reached at cessenburg@kuyper.edu.

What are the deadlines for housing applications?

Priority roommate pairing will be given to housing applications received by May 1 (for fall semester) and December 15 (for winter semester). Housing applications will be accepted following the priority deadline until housing is full.

How are roommate pairings decided?

If you are a new student and know someone you’d like to be a roommate, residence life will do its best to honor your request. If you do not have a roommate request, you’ll be matched with someone based on the information you provided on your housing application.

May I have visitors in my suite?

Guests of the opposite gender are only allowed at designated times on resident floors and in suites. Guests of the same gender are allowed at any time.

Students who wish to have overnight guests of the same gender must obtain permission in advance. Permission is required from roommates, plus an assistant resident director. The latter will provide you with the College policies that apply to overnight visits.

Who do I contact if I have additional questions?

If you have additional questions regarding residence life, please email residence life director, Mike McCarty, at mmccarty@kuyper.edu.
