Parents

Whether you are a parent of a present or future Kuyper student, we value your partnership and support throughout the educational process. We view all parents as members of the Kuyper community, and we value and admire your investment, loving guidance and the nurturing you provide your student.

If you have question or a concern, please email Curt Essenburg, Director of Student Life. You may also contact him directly at (616) 988-3654.

If your student is exploring his or her potential opportunities at Kuyper, we are glad you're taking part in this journey. As you and your student search for a college that is the right fit, we have compiled some questions we believe may be important to consider.

Q: What is the culture like on campus?

A. At Kuyper, every student is required to take at least 21 Bible and theology credits. This, by nature, draws students who are interested in and excited about learning how to use their faith—no matter what profession—to impact the world for Christ.

Q. How will my student be supported by Kuyper?

A. With a 1-to-12 professor-to-student ratio, your student will benefit from the nurturing, personalized instruction of committed and experienced faculty. Outside of the classroom, we will invest in your student as well. Our philosophy embraces holistic development. We desire that your student will grow not only academically, but also spiritually, emotionally and mentally. To help your student succeed, we offer extensive spiritual growth opportunites, as well as free academic supportcareer services and counseling

Q. Will my student be able to grow academically, spiritually and socially?

A.  At Kuyper, education is grounded in our belief that the Bible is the word of God and must guide our teaching, philosophy and lifestyle. Affirming that all people are made in the image of God to declare His glory, we integrate faith into all aspects of our students’ personal and community experience—helping them to develop academically, spiritually, socially and morally into a Christ-centered leader—ready to make a difference and effectively serve Christ’s world.

Q. What kind of financial aid is offered?

A.  We place special emphasis on making a high-quality Christian college education as affordable as possible. This keeps Kuyper’s tuition costs significantly lower than many other Christian colleges.

  • More than 94 percent of students receive financial aid and scholarships
  • The average financial aid package is nearly $15,000 per year
  • A total of more than $3.9 million in financial aid is awarded annually
  • A variety of on-campus employment and paid internship opportunities are available
  • A payment plan enables you to pay in installments each semester.
Q. What is Grand Rapids like?

A. Kuyper College is located on a beautiful campus eight miles from downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan. The city has been named one of the top 50 places to live and play by National Geographic magazine, the best city for raising a family by Forbes magazine and the 2014 top vacation destination by the world’s leading travel content provider—Lonely Planet. Additional information for Grand Rapids is available: Grand Rapids, Michigan

Q. Is the campus safe?

A. Kuyper College provides a secure, yet accessible environment for all members of its community. We aim to protect personal safety and property by securing our facilities with a combination of mechanical and electronic access control systems. We are in full compliance with the Jeanne Clery—Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act, enacted by the U.S. Congress in 1988. We must publish an Annual Campus Safety Report for the previous year.
