Al Moss: Chapel Reflection
The Kuyper College community began the 2023 Winter semester on January 10 by gathering in the Vos Chapel to hear God’s word taught, to sing of His faithfulness and to pray. Al Moss, a 2006 Kuyper graduate and the college’s Director of Student Development and Faith Formation, led the service.
“It’s good to be back for the start of a new semester,” Moss said. He then highlighted some of the joys and challenges that often come with such beginnings, encouraging his listeners to seek the presence of God in all circumstances.
“When God shows, things change,” Moss emphasized. He likened the recognition of God’s presence to a skilled athlete entering the field of play. When such athletes come onto the field, Moss said, the game totally changes simply because of their presence.
Moss also spoke about the three Ps of God’s presence: problem, promise and practice. The problem, he said, is that God is present everywhere, but the fallenness of our world obscures our view of Him. The promise is that because God is always present with us, it is only our awareness of Him that changes. Knowing this, it is important to practice seeking His presence.
But Moss urged his listeners to take things even a step further, saying: “It is one thing to take comfort in the promise of God’s presence; it is a greater thing to live and walk in that presence by choosing to align our lives with His purpose.”
