Finding A Firm Foundation: Chapel Reflection With Pastor J.R. Pittman
J.R. Pittman believes that good lives must be built on solid ground.
“If your foundation isn’t strong, it’s just a matter of time, as Scripture says, before a storm comes
and knocks you down,” he told members of the Kuyper community gathered in the Vos Chapel
on September 24 for a biweekly service.
Recounting the story of the wise and foolish men, found in Matthew 7, the founder and lead
pastor of Ignite Fellowship Church emphasized that Jesus is the strongest bedrock of all.
But building our lives on Jesus means more than simply listening to His teachings, Pittman said.
“See, there’s a lot of hypocrites in the body of Christ,” he added. “We should be doing what the
Scripture says but we often don’t.”
When we stand securely on the foundation of our salvation, he told his listeners, God will enable
us to live according to His will. Furthermore, this security can bring us great comfort in times of
trial.
“God tells us that He will be with us wherever we go. I can be happy in Jesus because with him I
can do all things,” he said.
This joy we have in Christ, even when our lives descend into chaos, is what sets us apart from
the rest of the world, and it will attract those who don’t yet know Him, Pittman added.
He continued by saying that this is exactly what we are here on earth to do.
“You were created for God and His glory. We are here to accomplish the Father’s business, but
He must be our firm foundation in order for that to happen,” he said.
Pittman concluded by issuing an important challenge to those present.
“Make God your firm foundation,” he said.
