Kuyper College is hosting two exciting sports camps for youth this summer, and Tyler Whitcomb can’t wait.
“It’s the first time we’ve ever done something like this,” said Kuyper’s Athletics Liaison, who also serves as an admissions counselor. “We’ve been talking about ways to deepen Kuyper’s commitment to making a positive impact in our community, and this fits perfectly in line with our mission as a college.”
Geared toward students entering fifth through eighth grades, the camps – basketball from July 21-23 and soccer from July 24-26 – will run from 9 am to 3 pm daily on the Kuyper campus and give participants the opportunity to develop their talents alongside Kuyper College student-athletes.
Kuyper’s camps will aim to assist participants with more than just their athletic skills though, Whitcomb said.
“They’ll get hands-on experience working with Kuyper athletes and coaches, for sure, but the overall focus is on how we can bring glory to God through sports,” he noted.
Among the perks of the Kuyper camps will be sessions led by members of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, an organization that unites faith and athletics to impact the world for Christ. Each day also will include devotionals and more.
The camps are priced reasonably at $100 per camper, which includes food, a T-shirt and a special players’ Bible.
Whitcomb says he is looking forward to seeing where God might take this new program in the future.
“It’s a way for kids to interact with each other, get excited about getting better, build relationships and get good advice that they can take home with them,” he said. “Hopefully we can continue to grow as time goes on.”
Families can register their campers online at camps.kuyper.edu, and any questions can be directed to 616-856-5336.
“We would be honored to invest in your student’s athletic and spiritual growth this summer,” said Whitcomb.
