Kuyper Unveils New Online Prayer Request Portal
Prayer has been central to the mission of Kuyper College since it was founded 85 years ago. In fact, the College’s motto, “Ora Et Labora,” means “Pray and Work.”
Today, Kuyper is still defined by its commitment to honoring God and serving each other through work and prayer. And a new online prayer request portal fits right into the College’s ethos.
“We’re always looking for new and innovative ways for the Kuyper community to stay connected to the College and to each other, and this is an important way of doing that,” said Nathan Slauer, Manager of the Annual Fund and Alumni Relations.
Slauer explained that the idea for the new platform began this past winter with Kuyper’s Alumni Relations Committee, who wanted to create pathways for connection that go beyond gatherings and events.
“The idea is that anyone – students, staff, faculty, or other community members – can ask for prayer and know that they are being lifted up within the Kuyper community,” he added.
Whether those seeking prayer have a blessing they would like celebrated or a hardship they need support for, they can submit those requests through a special page on the Kuyper website.
Submissions are then received by Kuyper’s Advancement & Alumni Office before being connected with a dedicated prayer partner. These volunteers are often Kuyper alumni or staff members, although anyone in the Kuyper community can sign up to become a prayer partner online.
Prayer requests can either stay with their prayer partner, who will notify the submitter that they are being prayed for, or they can be shared with more of the Kuyper community through avenues such as staff summer chapel services.
If desired, prayer requests can also remain entirely anonymous.
Slauer said he is excited for the relational possibilities that the prayer portal has created within the Kuyper community.
“Since I began working here, I’ve met so many people from different Kuyper eras who still want to connect. I think building those relationships through things like this prayer portal is a really important thing,” he emphasized.
And he also hopes the new platform will help Kuyper community members feel supported, no matter what season of life they are in.
“Prayer is a powerful way that we can share our needs, and we want everyone to know that Kuyper is there for them, even after graduation,” he said. “You have a broader community of people thinking about you, who are willing to go above and beyond to support you in your life after college.”
