Ora et Labora: Roger Kieffer
Roger Kieffer is passionate about helping Christian colleges and universities thrive.
“God’s most important tool, other than the Church, for saving the culture of our nation is Christian higher education,” Kieffer told the Kuyper Community on March 30 as part of Ora Et Labora, a weekly time where speakers come to campus to talk about their work and how their faith impacts that work.
By this, Kieffer clarified, he meant that our culture greatly benefits from having more Christian leaders who are committed to serving God by doing good, and a Christian higher education is an important way of preparing them to do so.
God has placed leadership qualities inside each of us, Kieffer said, and a Christian higher education can help cultivate them.
“We all have leadership potential, but leaders are made, not born. God chose to wire us each in a particular way, and we have the potential to help others develop their ability to be leaders,” Kieffer said.
Kieffer’s passion for Christian higher education has led him to spend nearly four decades working in various spheres of Christian higher education, from acting as a registrar to leading admissions departments. “There isn’t any doubt in my mind that God has called me to this,” he said.
When asked what he would say to prospective students considering attending an institution like Kuyper College, Kieffer said, “If you really want to get a complete picture of God, the world, and everything about life, go to a Christian college. There’s really no comparison.”
