Kuyper’s Annual Variety Show
March 11, 2016
As a rite of Spring, Kuyper students gathered in the Vos Chapel for the annual variety show. They were treated with phenomenal acts showcasing Kuyper student talent—from songs to drama to comedy to dance and beyond the imaginable. In fact, the three judges—Dr. Jeff Fisher (Professor of Theological Studies), Dr. Patricia Harris (Provost), and Dr. Nicholas V. Kroeze (President)—were hard-pressed to choose the winners.
After deliberation, they awarded Jeremy Helms, with his crowd-pleasing electric violin rendition of “Hibernia” (a multi-genre medley originally performed by CCM recording artist Michael W. Smith), the Most Engaging Award. The tap-dancing team of Leigha Sillman, Anna Slomp, and Grace VanderPol, won the Most Creative Award for a humorous and well-done routine to singer-songwriter Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass.” Finally, a multi-student acapella singing group, “The Acca-Kuyper,” won the Best in Show Award for a rendition of “Stitches” by singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes.
Ultimately, the 2016 Kuyper College Variety Show was a night full of celebration of student talent. An appreciative audience, made up mostly of students, certainly enjoying, reveling with applause, laughter, cheers and whistles—but nary a cat-call.
